El Capitan Cave | We provide transport to the El Capitan Cave site, and can help book your tours through the US Forest Service. Groups of 2-6. This trip includes stops at Beaver Falls Karst Interpretive Trail and Cavern Lake cave and karst sites. The trip leaves from Craig or Klawock, and the drive is a 4-hour round trip. The cave tour itself takes about an hour and a half, and the boardwalk trail hike at Beaver Falls can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. Cavern Lake is a quick stop to look at a great cave feature, and is located along the way.
Dog Salmon Wildlife (Bear) Viewing Area | We provide transport to and from the Forest Service wildlife viewing area on Dog Salmon Creek, which consists of a short flat trail, a fish pass (which is usually filled with salmon during runs) and attracts large numbers of the Island’s native black bears. Great photo opportunities! Along the way, we make a stop at Trocadero Trail, a hike through the wetland areas culminating at a beautiful and fishy stream.
Luck Lake | This beautiful day use site, near the charming town of Coffman Cove, is a wonderful addition to Forest Service facilities on the island. On this trip, we go for a leisurely canoe and/or kayak paddle on a calm and beautiful freshwater lake. There are wonderful spots to go ashore and enjoy opportunities for solitude, wildlife viewing and a picnic meal. Along the way, we stop briefly in Coffman Cove, where you can get a souvenir or a sandwich if the restaurant is open. If there’s time, a hike down Hatchery Creek trail on the way home provides another opportunity to see salmon leaping the falls and perhaps a black bear.
Sarkar Lake | This large freshwater lake is steeped in history and mystery. It is home to a visitor use cabin and a remote canoe route, but for the day, we’ll paddle to the end of the lake and back; this trip is not for novice paddlers and entails a solid couple hours of paddling in canoes and/or kayaks. The far shoreline is a green and mossy paradise, home to ancient fish camps, and affords many opportunities for great photos and memory making.
Things to Know | Our van seats 1-6 comfortably but we may be able to accommodate larger groups - ask us! Food is not included, but we are seeking local providers for picnic lunches – until then, grab some smoked salmon, fruit, cheese, nuts or whatever travels well. Bring extra in the case of any unscheduled delays, and plenty of water is important! Finally, we are not a freshwater fishing guide service, although we can help you coordinate with guides. Therefore, while you are allowed to bring your own rods to certain lakes, we do not advise you on where or how to fish, and we are not allowed to transport fish, so catch-and-release is required.
